In the item description of every regular inventory item there will usually be pictures diagrams and a description of the item/s. The pictures are only example pictures to show the style of the item and is not a picture of the exact item that will be shipped when ordered. 

The amount of fitting required will depend on the type and model of gun being restocked.  Some guns have a very straight forward simple metal to wood fit while other guns have a more complicated metal to wood fit. The outside of the stocks are left oversized ( at least 1/8" all over +/-) to allow for the fitting of wood to metal fit to be as perfect as the customer so desires, and rasping/sanding to remove machine marks, chips, sanding marks, scratches, irregularities in the wood etc., final shaping, and prepare for a finish to be applied. Forend barrel channels are undersized to allow proper fitting to the barrel, to help keep costs lower some forends are made to fit a 12, 16, and 20-ga. barrel with the outside for a 12-ga. and the barrel channel/s for a 20-ga.

Our standard/plain walnut, maple, laminate, etc. gunstocks may have machining marks, irregularities, minor sap wood, eyes, small knots inclusions,etc. and will not be considered as defects. Semi-finished gunstocks will require more than just a few swipes with sandpaper. Some stocks also may require cutting to length for the desired pitch and desired LOP. We recommend anyone fitting and finishing a semi-finished gunstock to a gun have at least moderate wood working skills and the correct tools such as a palm sander, sanding sticks, wood rasp, files, chisels, sanding block, sandpaper, etc.

When a recoil pad is ordered with a buttstock Gunstocks Inc. will install and fit the recoil pad to the buttstock at a standard LOP when applicable free of charge, this installation will include attaching the recoil pad to the buttstock and sanding the pad and buttstock together as one unit using a coarse grit sand to obtain a generic fit and shape. It will be up to the customer or competent gunsmith to do the final and finish sanding and shaping of the wood and recoil pad to prepare the wood and pad for finishing. Instructions on how to finish sand a recoil pad can usually be found on the recoil pad manufacturers website or by contacting the recoil pad manufacturer.

Semi-finished gunstocks are left oversize for several reasons, As stated above, to allow for the fitting of wood to metal fit to be as perfect as the customer so desires, and sanding/rasping to remove machine marks, chips, sanding marks, scratches, irregularities in the wood etc. as well as the oversized stock can be sanded/rasped as close to OEM size as the customer desires.

Weather conditions and climate change will have a drastic affect on unfinished wood, for this reason a semi-finished gunstock must be left oversize and the inletting must be left undersized to allow for the shrinking and swelling of the unfinished wood as it acquires and dissipates any moisture during a climate or weather condition change which can happen from day to day. All standard/plain grade walnut stocks could contain Natural cosmetic imperfections, minor knots, pin knots, burls, drying checks, heartwood, sapwood, mineral lines/streaks, and are not considered a defect or blemish and will be subject to the 25% restocking fee if returned.

Again we stress anyone fitting and finishing a semi-finished gunstock to a gun have at least moderate wood working skills and the correct tools to accomplish this task. We also recommend that all semi-finished gunstocks be allowed to acclimate to the climate where the stock will be fit to the gun and the finish put on.
